2022

Five friends meet for a dinner party. During the convivial get-together, differences of opinion arise. They discuss the relevance of art within current political and social discourses. The evening begins as a quiet dinner conversation and ends in a heated argument.

Art institutions, especially art academies, negotiate - implicitly or explicitly - questions of artistic and social practice, (de)marking their interfaces and contradictions. How does the discourse about the relevance of art translate into one's own work? Does it make sense to incorporate current political issues into one's own practice, and vice versa: what relevance does artistic practice unfold if it does not? What institutional power do art academies have as educational institutions with their specifically historically materialized contexts?
